Ms. Mi's return journey—she'd purchased a reserved seat on the 9:55 express. My own timetable had scheduled checkout for 10:00, but I'd changed it to 9:30 to be in time. Incidentally, my own departure was at 10:45. If the weather was fine, I'd rather stroll leisurely to the station, taking photos along the way—that thought lingered somewhat.
The photography session lasted just over ten minutes.
On the narrow platform. With the eyes of other passengers waiting for the train upon us.
Even so, I managed to capture a few shots to my liking.
Like home movies – utterly uncontrived, just as they were, amateur snaps.
If this is good enough, it seems I could take them anytime, anywhere.
While I do admire carefully crafted images, I realised once more that what I truly want to see is precisely this.
After seeing her off, I boarded the diesel train at 10:45 and alighted at Kayano. From there, I took the Limited Express Azusa to Matsumoto. The arrival in Matsumoto was delayed, making the transfer to the Limited Express Shinano a frantic rush. I gave up on buying the ekiben I'd planned to get at Matsumoto Station and spent the return journey gazing out the window, just as before.
The non-reserved seating on the Shinkansen Nozomi I boarded at Nagoya was packed. Fortunately, I managed to get a seat in the middle of a three-seat row. Since the value of this train lies in its speed, one simply has to endure the discomfort.
I arrived home after 4 pm.
The only things I'd had since morning, apart from an early matcha latte, were bottled water and a convenience store waffle bought three days prior. Plus, the leftover chocolate from the tasting session at the Hakushu Distillery. It was given to me by Ms Mi, who dislikes chocolate.
Despite having eaten nothing for breakfast or lunch, I felt no hunger.
みさんの帰路＿９時５５分発の特急指定席を購入しているとのこと。自作のタイムテーブルでは、１０時チェックアウトだったが、それに間に合うように、９時半に変更した。ちなみに私の乗車は、１０時４５分。天気が良ければ、駅までぶらぶら歩きながら撮影を＿という気持ちも幾らかあった。
撮影時間は１０分余り。
狭いプラットホームの上。列車待ちの人たちの目もある。
それでも、私好みの数枚を残すことが出来た。
まるでホームムービーのような、何の工夫もない、ただそのままの、素人スナップ。
こんなもので良いのなら、いつでも、どこでも撮れそうに思えてくる。
作りこまれた画像にも憧れるのだが、結局、私が見たいのは、こんなものだったのだと改めて思った。
お見送りした後、１０時４５分に乗車した気動車を茅野で下車。そこから松本まで、特急あずさに乗った。松本着が延着となり、特急しなのへの乗り換えが、ぎりぎりとなる慌ただしさ。松本駅で買うつもりだった駅弁を諦め、帰りの車内でも行きと同じように窓外を眺めて過ごした。
名古屋で乗った新幹線のぞみの自由席は満員。幸いにも、三列シートの真ん中に座らせてもらった。速さに価値のある列車だから、居心地の悪さは、我慢するしかない。
帰宅したのは１６時過ぎ。
朝から口にしたのは、早朝の抹茶ラテの他は、ペットボトルの水と三日前に買ったコンビニのワッフル。それに白州蒸留所のテイスティングタイムで出されたチョコレートの残り。チョコレートが苦手だというみさんから頂いたものだ。
朝も昼も食べていなかったにも関わらず、空腹感は無かった。
