Three Imperial Tombs

(続き)

It was a short 10-minute walk uphill gently from Kintetsu Momoyama Goryomae Station.
It was a tranquil place.
I was there for two hours and met a total of only 10 people.
There were no human voices at all.
The trees standing in a row blocked out the outside world filled with the heat of internal combustion engines and air conditioning.
A vast site with no Shinto priests serving gods or monks serving the Buddha.
When I thought about the fact that the shrine, which was built somewhere regardless of his intentions, had become the headquarters of a political pressure group, I felt that this place was exceptionally refreshing.
I hope it will remain so forever, without being turned into a tourist attraction and without being tarnished by state Shintoism. I couldn't help but hope so.
