Temples on steep slopes

A seaside town and also a town of hills. I was aware of that, but I had forgotten that it is a town with many shrines and temples.
The tourist map given to me at the station showed that most of them stood on a steep slope north of the JR railway line. According to the inn owner's explanation, the land south of the JR tracks was land reclaimed a long time ago. The old inhabitants disliked the poor drainage and built their houses on the slope. Temples, shrines and cemeteries all went to the same slope. It is difficult to live there as one gets older, and it is noticeable that many buildings have been abandoned.
What I found interesting when I actually walked around the area was that there was a railway crossing on the approach to the temple, and that many paths passed under the railway tracks.

I walked the area before dusk, when there were few people, and early in the morning at 5am.
Looking at the slides, the light is still different.
With only one night's stay, there is only a small distance to walk.
Early in the morning, I turned a corner and found cats.
I thought there seemed to be cats everywhere in the hilly town, but cats still live as they please and have no intention of being affectionate towards humans.
That seemed catlike and refreshing to me.
